Following long-term campaigning from Registry Trust, the Government has now laid the necessary legislation to enable the inclusion of claimant names on the Register of Judgments, Orders and Fines.

This change will apply to CCJs registered from 20 July 2026, with claimant names becoming searchable via Registry Trust’s TrustOnline from 20 October 2026. The change is not retrospective and will only apply to new judgments registered after the legislation comes into force.

The legislation enables only the claimant name to be included on the Register (no wider claimant details), providing additional context about the debts that have resulted in judgments. This enhancement reflects a shared interest in improving understanding of debt, judgments and consumer outcomes through richer public data.

Registry Trust says that claimant information has the potential to support deeper understanding of patterns and trends within the civil justice system and the wider credit information ecosystem. Many respondents to the government consultation highlighted opportunities to improve transparency, support research and strengthen evidence available to policymakers and other stakeholders. Richer information may also help inform discussions around financial inclusion, vulnerability and the operation of debt recovery processes.

Registry Trust welcomes continued engagement with stakeholders interested in the implications of claimant information and the opportunities it presents for improving understanding of debt, judgments, civil justice and consumer outcomes.
