Guy Opperman has been appointed as the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) Parliamentary Under Secretary for Pensions and Financial Inclusion.

The appointment has been welcomed by the money advice sector.

Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles, Chair of the Financial Inclusion Commission, said: “We are delighted that the government has responded to the Financial Inclusion Commission’s call for ministerial leadership on the important issue of financial inclusion. Since 2014 we have been working to  push this issue further up the political agenda and ministerial leadership has been one of our key asks. Our 2015 report, Financial Inclusion: Tackling the financial health of the nation, called on the government to appoint a ‘Minister for Financial Health’. We congratulate the Parliamentary Under Secretary for Pensions and Financial Inclusion and stand ready to support him in his new role.”
