Festive wishes from MALG!

2022 has been a very positive and eventful year for us celebrating our 35th Anniversary and delivering a full face to face Conference which was well received; more about that later. We are already working on how to maximise the benefits for all our members next year.

MALG National Members Meetings in 2023

With so many new MALG Members on board, our quarterly National Members Meetings are set to get even bigger and better so make sure you’re taking advantage of this free Member benefit – or find out about joining MALG if you’re not already a Member.

We will be continuing with a combination of virtual and physical Meetings in 2023, the dates of which are as follows:

  • 9 February (via Zoom)
  • 11 May (venue tbc)
  • 13 July (immediately after AGM, venue tbc)
  • 21 September (via Zoom)

We know from the Conference feedback survey that there are some key topics which people are keen to hear more about but please let us know if you have other suggestions for topics and speakers using the form on this page of our website.

MALG Conference 2022 feedback – and plans for 2023!

We are sure that those of you who were able to make it along will agree that this year’s MALG Conference was our best yet! Thank you to everyone who sent comments via email and social media and completed the Conference evaluation survey. You told us that the programme, speakers, delegate, mix and networking opportunities were excellent or good; there were adequate opportunities for interactive discussion and quality engagement; and you’d recommend the event to a colleague in the industry.

The most requested topic for future events was ‘deficit budgets’. There was also a lot of interest in SDRPs, income maximisation, consumer protection and Local Government debt.

Birmingham Repertory Theatre provided the perfect backdrop for a day of interactive discussion, learning and networking on ‘working together to improve the lives of people in debt’. After ironing out a few teething issues we’re hoping to return to the venue next year – date and full details will be announced in the New Year.

MALG Members Friday Forum to continue throughout 2023

We are very pleased to announce that, thanks to extended sponsorship from PRA Group, the MALG Friday Forum will continue on a fortnightly basis from 13 January 2023.

Whether you’re a regular, have attended before, or are a National or Regional Member who’s yet to take advantage of this member benefit, we would be delighted to welcome you on screen next year. If you want to share or discuss any particularly pressing topics, you can either join the forum and raise your virtual hand, or please email us on info@malg.org.uk in advance and we can arrange for you to introduce your topic to the room yourself.

In the meantime, have your Christmas jumpers at the ready for the last MALG Friday Forum of 2022 on 16 December!

Full details, including joining instructions and future dates, can be found here.

Elifinty, Impact on Urban Health and Fair Money Advice event

Bob was asked to deliver a session at this event and spoke about why MALG’s aim of ‘working together to improve the lives of people in debt’ is more important than ever in the face of the cost of living crisis. He talked about driving collaboration across the debt landscape through listening to each other’s issues to break down resistance to change and deliver joint solutions.
