Hello to all our MALG Members and contacts,

Somehow, the most unpredictable and turbulent year we could have ever imagined is very quickly drawing to a close! It has been a year of highs and lows with MALG Members going the extra mile to continue ‘working together to improve the lives of people in debt’. Your contribution has been outstanding and you are all due a very well deserved break. We’ve therefore decided to pause the MALG Friday Forum (which we introduced at the end of March as a virtual means of keeping abreast of what was happening across the debt landscape as the pandemic unfolded) for December. The Friday Forum will return on 8 January 2021 on a fortnightly basis as we continue to help you navigate the ‘new normal’. We hope to see as many of you as possible on our last MALG Friday Forum of the year on 27 November 2020 at 10am when Anna Roughley and Jessica Roberts of the Lending Standards Board will be giving us a brief update on their work. Find out more (including how to join if you haven’t before) here.

MALG Virtual Summit 2.0…

Following the success of last month’s MALG Virtual Summit, we’ve taken on board all your feedback and are working on an exciting new virtual event for the Spring, which we hope will become a permanent annual fixture.

It’ll be held on 25 March 2021 (when we were going to hold the physical conference – keep reading for more on that) and we can assure you that it’ll be one not to miss, with the opportunity for some proper interactive networking that MALG is well known for. More details on that very soon!

Save the date for the MALG Conference October 2021

I am sure you will all appreciate that we will be unable to hold our face-to-face conference at No 11 Cavendish Square in London in March 2021 so we’ve decided to stick with the usual Autumn scheduling and hold it on Thursday 28 October 2021. Please ‘save the date’ and look out for more details in the new year!

Transitioning to the new MALG Membership structureIf you missed it in the last Bob’s Blog, we’ve re-launched the MALG Membership structure to streamline it and reflect the extended scope of membership benefits as a result of our enhanced virtual events offering.

More information on membership pricing and application can be found on our website here. Current Members will be offered the appropriate new membership package for their organisation in advance of their next renewal date.

MALG and Money Advice Trust Data Protection & Vulnerability Guidance launch

If you haven’t had chance to read or use it yet, take a look at our new joint ‘Vulnerability, GDPR, and disclosure: A practical guide for creditors and advisers’ with Money Advice Trust.

It explores the overlap between data protection compliance and vulnerable customer regulation and seeks to help firms achieve this by striking the right balance between human experience and data.

Find out more and access the guide here.

MALG Regional Meetings update

MALG regional group meetings are now being held via Zoom and have been very well attended. Remember, if you are a National Member, you have access to some or all of the regional groups so please take advantage of this membership benefit.

Details of upcoming regional meetings, including the MALG North West Meeting tomorrow (25 November), the first ever MALG East Anglia Meeting on 3 December and the MALG North East & Yorkshire Meeting on 10 December (which already has more than 30 people signed up to it), can be found at www.malg.org.uk/events.

If you aren’t currently being invited to regional meetings and think you should be/want to be, please contact the relevant regional secretary:
